Vijay Express derailed: Four teenagers arrested

Four teenagers were arrested in connection with the derailment of nine coaches of the Mymensingh-bound Vijay Express at Nangalkot in Comilla. The arrested teenagers were sent to jail on Tuesday (March 19).

They were identified as Kazi Samir (15), Kazi Al Amin (15), Shakibul Hassan Fahim (14), and Abdullah Al Mamun Jihad (13), of Chauddagram upazila. They are all students of Madrasa and residents of the same village. 

Laksam railway police station OC Murad Ullah Bahar said the railway authorities arrested four people and filed a case at Laksam police station on Monday night. They were arrested by Telegram in a raid.

Before the Vijay Express derailed, a few teenagers were roaming on the railway track and escaped by dropping a school bag when locals chased them. After some time, 9 coaches of the Mymansingh-bound Vijay train derailed. Later, the abandoned school bag was searched and 3 railway bearing plates and birth registration were found inside the bag. Based on that source, they were arrested.

On Sunday (March 17), 9 out of 18 carriages of the Vijay Express departing from Chittagong derailed at Tejer Bazar area, three kilometers east of Hasanpur railway station in Comilla‍‍`s Nangalkot Upazila. In this accident, 30 people were injured.
