The government has identified 445 shelters across Dhaka to support residents in case of an earthquake, Disaster Management and Relief Minister Asadul Habib Dulu said on Thursday.

He said the shelters have been designated in Dhaka North City Corporation and Dhaka South City Corporation to ensure emergency support during disasters.

The minister shared the information after a meeting with Prime Minister Tarique Rahman at the Secretariat.

He also said the government is planning to include disaster awareness in the national education curriculum. Teachers will be trained under this initiative to better prepare students for emergencies.

In addition, a preliminary list of around 145,000 volunteers from different organisations has been prepared to assist in managing post-earthquake situations.

Officials said these steps are part of efforts to strengthen disaster preparedness and improve response capacity in the capital.
