A Sirajganj court has handed down death penalty to a woman and her lover for murdering her husband in Shahjadpur upazila in 2019.
Fazle Khoda Md Nazir, judge of Sirajganj District and Session Judge's court, pronounced the verdict on Tuesday.
The convicts are--Mukti Khatun,22, wife of slain Monirul Haque of Borobila village and Saidul Islam Tushar allies Tuhin of Shoktipur village in the same upazila.
According to the case statement, Mukti got married to Monirul Haque but had a love affair with Tuhin before the marriage. But, they continued their relationship after the marriage.
When Monirul came to know the matter, Mukti and Tuhin planned his murder and as per their plan, they took Monirul to Mukti's grandfather's house on June 3, 2019.
They first gave Monirul sedatives with meal and when he went into deep sleep, they strangled him to death.
Later, Monirul's father filed a murder case with Shahjadpur Police Station accusing Mukti and Tuhin.
After examining 11 witnesses and evidences, the court handed down the verdict. The convicts were sent to jail immediately.
