Bangladesh`s export-import activities with India through Benapole land port will remain suspended for five days starting today on the occasion of Durga Puja.
"All imports and exports through Petrapole port will remain closed till October 24 during the puja holidays," Shamsur Rahman, president of Benapole C&F Agents Association, quoted Kartik Chakraborty, general secretary of C&F Agents Staff Welfare Association, of Petrapole port in India as saying.
The trade activities will resume on October 25, he added.
Kamruzzaman Biswas, officer-in-charge (OC) of Benapole Checkpost Immigration Police, said the movement of passengers with India is normal even though the movement of goods through Benapole-Petrapole port has been suspended.
More than 4,700 passengers have crossed since this morning, according to the port authority.
Despite the suspension of trade activities, importers will be able to unload all types of goods from the port during the holidays, said Deputy Commissioner of Benapole Customs House Athela Chowdhury.
BIBIR BAZAR LAND PORT
Export and import activities through Bibir Bazar land port of Cumilla will remain suspended for six days for Durga puja and Lakshmi puja.
Jamal Ahmed, president of Bibirbazar Land Port Import-Exporters Association of Cumilla and the C&F Agents Association, said the import and export activities through Cumilla Bibir Bazar port will be suspended on October 21-24 on the occasion of Durga puja and October 27 and 28 on the occasion of Laxmi puja.
However, imports and exports will continue on October 25-26, he added.
