Evaly given three weeks to explain how it plans to repay debts

E-commerce company Evaly has been given a week to explain its financial queries and three weeks to explain how the company plans to settle its debts. The decision was taken at a meeting by a nine-member inter-ministerial committee of the Commerce Ministry on Wednesday (August 11).

The meeting was held at the conference room of Commerce Ministry in the capital and was chaired by Commerce Secretary Tapan Kanti Ghosh and representatives from the Home Ministry, ICT Division, Bangladesh Bank, National Board of Revenue (NBR), Directorate of National Consumers' Right Protection (DNCRP), and the Bangladesh Competition Commission.

WTO Cell Director General Mohammad Hafizur Rahman said, we sent a letter to Evaly inquiring how they plan to repay their debts, repay their customers. We have received a letter regarding this from Evaly on August 1. They told us they need at least six months to compile all financial audits, and come with relevant plan to repay debts.

They also told us they have recently signed a 1000 crore investment deal. Out of which 200 has already been invested. The company claims they will regularly deliver products again in six months. Moreover, they will submit a third-party audit report in six months, added he.

Speaking in regard of the committee’s decision Hafizur Rahman said, "We sent them the letter on July 19, to which they replied on July 31. 12 days have passed in between, including 11 days of the current month. Considering everything, we have given them three weeks to get back to us."
