Market volatility has started before Ramadan. The prices of daily necessities are increasing. In the meantime, the prices of dates, chickpeas, pulses and sugar have started to increase. Consumers are facing crisis.
According to the government agency TCB, the price of chickpeas has increased by five and a half percent in the last one week. Chickpeas are being sold at Tk 100 to Tk 110 per kg depending on the standard. Mung dal is being sold from Tk 140 to Tk 150 with an increase of more than 13 percent. The price of sugar is also high. It is being sold at Tk 145 per kg, which is 24 percent more than the same period last year. Dates are not available below Tk 250.
Apart from papaya, radish, other vegetables are being sold above Tk 80. Besides, the price of garlic has increased from Tk 20 to Tk 40 and ginger from Tk 10 to Tk 30. Ginger and garlic are being sold at Tk 260 to Tk 280 per kg. Apart from this, onions which were sold at Tk 80 are now being sold at Tk 90 to Tk 100 per kg. Onion is still being sold at a higher price compared to the same period last year.
According to sources, several government agencies have started monitoring the market three months before Ramadan.
