DU likely to abide by NTAC’s decision on vaccination

Health Minister Zahid Maleque on Wednesday at a press conference declared a priority list for covid-19 vaccine that includes the public university students who were staying at the university dormitories before the pandemic invaded.

Zahid Maleque also said that the vaccination with gifted Chinese vaccines will start in the country from June 19, yet the Dhaka University (DU) has no precise inoculation plan. Only two days left to start the vaccination process.

Talking to the vice-chancellor of Dhaka University Md. Akhtaruzzaman, it is known that the university is ready to abide by the decision of the National Technical Advisory Committee (NTAC) on Covid-19.

He said, “Health Services is centrally controlling everything related to vaccination.” At that time he called upon the reporter not to write other misleading information about this.

Dr. K M Saiful Islam Khan, provost of Sir A F Rahman Hall of Dhaka University said, “vice-chancellor talked to the Health Ministry about the vaccination of our student. We, the hall authorities, submitted a residential students’ list to the university as per its demand.”

“The authority has not communicated to us yet, but I hope soon it will provide us the guideline,” added this provost.

Nowshin Anjum, a student of the Political Science department of DU, said, “I think this a positive decision. As many students have to stay together in a room, they are at high risk. So they should get vaccinated first to reduce the risk and then gradually non-residents will also have to be vaccinated.”

However, Data from DU’s ICT cell showed the names of those students who have registered for the vaccination. It shows only 10,500 students had official email accounts from the university while some 17,500 students used their university enrollment number to register themselves through the designated website for vaccination at DU.
