Dhaka University Vice Chancellor Prof ASM Maksud Kamal submitted his resignation letter from his post on Saturday.
Maksud Kamal told English daily The Daily Star’s online edition that he has submitted his resignation letter to the secretary of the education ministry.
"I talked to an advisor to the interim government last night and decided not to hold my position," he added.
However, Secretary Suleman Khan said he is not aware of the resignation of the DU VC. "Today is (weekly) holiday, I didn`t even receive any phone call from him."
The provosts of Rokeya Hall, Shamsun Nahar Hall, Bijoy Ekattor Hall, Bangabandhu Hall, Muktijoddha Ziaur Rahman Hall, Shaheed Sergeant Zahurul Haque Hall and Salimullah Muslim Hall resigned.
Earlier on Friday, a group of students of Dhaka University staged a two-point protest rally demanding the resignation of the vice-chancellor (administration and education), proctor, assistant proctor, treasurer, all provosts and all senate and syndicate members along with Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr ASM Maksud Kamal.
Professor ASM Maksud Kamal was appointed as the 29th Vice-Chancellor in place of former vice-chancellor Prof Dr Md Akhtaruzzaman on November 4, 2023.
