Rail communication in Rajshahi-Dhaka route stopped as RU demonstrators lit fire

The students of Rajshahi University (RU) set fire to the railway line as part of protesting the icident of clash with the locals, where at least 200 university students got injured. Rail communication in Rajshahi-Dhaka route has been stopped.

Students set fire to the railway line near the fine arts faculty of the university at around 8 pm on Sunday.

Rajshahi Railway Station Manager Abdul Karim confirmed the matter to media.

Abdul Karim said, "Students put tree trunks at two points on the railway line and set them on fire."

Madhumati Express cannot enter Rajshahi as the train is stuck at the previous Harian station.

Besides, Banglabandha Express was scheduled to leave Rajshahi at 9:15pm, standing at Rajshahi station.

Dhumketu Express is scheduled to leave for Dhaka at 11pm. The station manager also expressed doubts about its departure as all the trains leaving from Rajshahi towards Natore, Sirajganj, Khulna, Rajbari or Dhaka, obviously have to cross the RU area where the students created blockade.

More than 200 people were injured in a clash that broke out between Rajshahi University students, and locals on Saturday evening. The injured included 10 campus journalists. The incident took place near the Binodpur gate of the university allegedly over bus seats. 

Taslim Ali alias Peter (45) is a chainmaster of a bus counter was arrested after the university administration filed a case against 400 to 500 anonymous people at Motihar police station. The case has been filed alleging beating, assault making seriously injured.
