Moderate to heavy rains battered Dhaka and its neighbouring areas on Thursday evening with the central weather office forecasting that bad weather could continue over next 24 hours from this evening.
The Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) in Dhaka said in the evening that night temperature may fall slightly as an impact of rains.
The weather office said in its latest bulletin that light to moderate rain or thundershowers accompanied by temporary gusty wind are likely to occur at most places over Rangpur, Rajshahi, Dhaka, Mymensingh and Sylhet divisions and at many places over Khulna, Barishal and Chattogram divisions.
It said moderately heavy to very heavy rains could continue to fall across the country over next 24 hours starting at 6:00 pm.
The country’s highest 244 mm rainfall was recorded in Rajshahi in 24 hours till 6 pm on Thursday.
According to the Rajshahi met office, the city witnessed its 10-year’s highest rainfall that inundated various important parts of the city and caused suffering to its dwellers.
Many houses in different parts of the city, including Bospara and Terokhada area, have been inundated due to continuous rain. The secondary school examinations in some schools have been postponed.
