Dengue continues to claim lives in Bangladesh, with two more fatalities and 330 new hospitalisations reported in the past 24 hours, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
As of Monday (July 14), the total death toll from dengue this year has reached 58, while 15,210 people have been hospitalised due to the mosquito-borne disease.
DGHS data reveals that 4,914 dengue patients have been admitted to hospitals in July alone, and 16 people have died so far this month. Currently, 1,183 patients are receiving treatment in hospitals across the country—367 in Dhaka and 816 in other divisions.
Monthly statistics show a steady rise in dengue cases. In January, 1,161 patients were hospitalised; February saw 374 cases, March 336, April 701, May 1,773, and June marked the highest with 5,951 hospital admissions.
The corresponding monthly death tolls were: 10 in January, 3 in February, 7 in April, 3 in May, and 19 in June.
Health authorities continue to urge citizens to remain vigilant and take preventive measures, especially during the monsoon season when dengue transmission peaks.
