There will be no increase in tariffs and supplementary duties for the import of raw materials for diapers and sanitary napkins for children, elderly, and women. This decision has been made, extending the deadline for maintaining these duties until June next year.
Finance Minister Abul Hassan Mahmud Ali proposed extending the deadline for raising tariffs and duties on the import of essential health products for women, ensuring stability in their prices. Consequently, there will be no increase in the cost of diapers for adults and children. Thus, the prices remain stable.
Bangladesh witnessed the presentation of the largest budget in its history by Finance Minister Abul Hassan Mahmud Ali on Thursday, June 6. A budget of Tk 7.97 trillion for the fiscal year 2024-25 was presented in the National Parliament.
During the budget speech, he stated, "In order to promote local production of essential sanitary napkins and diapers for women and children`s health protection, I propose to extend the deadline for the enhancement of tariffs (excluding advance tax) and supplementary duties (where applicable) until June 30, 2025."
In the previous fiscal year (2023-24), VAT and supplementary duties were exempted on the import of raw materials for sanitary napkins, focusing on women`s reproductive health.
This budget marks the 53rd of independent Bangladesh and the 21st under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina`s government.
The size of the previous fiscal year`s (2023-24) budget was Tk 7.61 trillion.
