Elon Musk has found himself at the center of controversy after making a gesture during his speech at Donald Trump`s inauguration.
His hand gesture, which some people compared to Adolf Hitler’s infamous salute, quickly spread on social media.
However, an anti-Nazi group clarified that Musk was simply celebrating an exciting moment. The news was reported by Reuters.
During the event on January 20th at Washington’s Capital One Arena, Musk was visibly excited.
He raised his hand, shouted “Yes!” in a dance-like motion, and spoke to the crowd.
"This wasn’t just any victory. It was a milestone for human civilization. This was truly significant. Thank you all for making this happen! Thank you,” he said.
Musk went on to bite his lip, gently tapped his chest with his right hand, and then extended his right arm to wave to the cheering crowd.
“My heart is with you. The future of civilization has been written because of you,” Musk added.
After the video of his gesture went viral, many criticized it. However, Musk has not made any public comments about the backlash.
Later, Musk shared a video of his speech from the inauguration on X, the platform formerly known as Twitter, which was originally recorded by Fox News.
In the version Musk shared, the controversial gesture was edited out. He wrote in the post, “The future is very exciting.”
This incident has left many wondering what prompted Musk’s gesture and whether it was misinterpreted by the public.
