Former U.S. President Jimmy Carter dies at the age of 100

Former U.S. President Jimmy Carter has passed away at the age of 100, confirmed by his foundation, the Carter Center. 

Carter died peacefully at his home in Plains, Georgia, on Sunday.

His son, Chip Carter, shared an emotional tribute, saying, "My father was not only a hero to me but to all those who believe in peace, human rights, and selfless love."

Carter, the longest-living U.S. president in history, marked his 100th birthday last October. 

According to the Carter Center, his body will be laid to rest in Plains, Georgia. 

Before his burial, events in Atlanta and Washington will offer people the chance to pay their respects, and he will be honored with a full state funeral.

In 2002, Jimmy Carter was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for his lifetime of humanitarian efforts.

Biden Pays Tribute to a Friend and Leader

U.S. President Joe Biden reacted to Carter’s death with heartfelt words, describing him as “a dear friend, extraordinary leader, humanitarian, and statesman.”

Biden added, "I have had the honor of calling Jimmy Carter a dear friend for the past six decades. But what is remarkable is that millions of people who never met him also considered him a dear friend."

He continued, “His love for people, his moral clarity, his efforts to cure diseases, bring peace to the world, fight for human rights, and work for free and peaceful elections, as well as his commitment to addressing homelessness, made him extraordinary. He changed the lives of countless people around the globe.”

Trump Remembers Carter’s Impact

President-elect Donald Trump also honored Carter, stating, "America owes a debt to Jimmy Carter."

Trump said, "Jimmy Carter took the responsibility of being president at a very critical time in American history. 

He faced every challenge head-on and worked tirelessly to improve the lives of the American people. We are indebted to Carter for that."

Former President George Bush, who had disagreements with Carter over the Iraq War, also praised him. 

He said, “Carter will continue to influence future generations of Americans through his work.”

Global Leaders Honor Carter’s Life

Leaders from around the world have also paid tribute to Carter. French President Emmanuel Macron said, "Carter fought for peace throughout his life. He consistently spoke up for human rights."

UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer said, "For many decades, Carter selflessly served the people."

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau added, “Jimmy Carter dedicated his life to serving both his country and the world.”

A Life Well Lived

Jimmy Carter married Rosalynn Smith in 1946, and the two enjoyed 77 years together until she passed away at the age of 96 in November last year.

Now, Carter has passed away, leaving behind four children, 11 grandchildren, and 14 great-grandchildren, along with a legacy of service to humanity.
