The controversial Muslim organization the Popular Front of India (PFI) has been given a five-year ban by the Indian government since of allegations that it possesses ties to terrorist organizations.
The ban, which was proclaimed on ednesday morning, is part of a larger assault on the organization; in the last week, officials have twice raided its offices in several states, leading to the arrests of several of its executives, All India radio confirms the news of the raid on Wednesday.
The PFI, rejecting the charges against it, has been protesting the raids nationwide.
The PFI was established in 2006 and identified as "a non-governmental societal structure whose declared aim is to advocate for the poor and disadvantaged people in the nation and to combat tyranny, injustice and abuse."
