Man throws shoe at ACC chief during public hearing in Bogura

A 65-year-old fish farmer, Sakhawat Hossain Mondal, threw his shoe at Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) Chairman Mohammad Moinuddin Abdullah during a public hearing in Bogura on Sunday, allegedly out of frustration over his complaint not being accepted.

The incident occurred around 1:00 pm at the Titu Auditorium, when the shoe landed below the stage where the ACC chief was seated.

Security personnel removed Sakhawat from the venue, but he was later allowed back in on the chairman’s instructions.

Bogura Sadar Police Station OC Hasan Bashir said Sakhawat had long sought justice over a grievance, filing complaints with various authorities, including the Home Ministry and the Army Chief’s office, but received no resolution.

He claimed that even though the National Human Rights Commission had twice ruled in his favor, no action was taken.

According to Sakhawat, the ACC hearing was only accepting certain complaints, excluding his. “I came here ready to go to jail. I knew throwing a shoe would get me arrested,” he told reporters.

The ACC chairman did not comment on the incident.
