The queen asks Truss to form a new government a day after the Conservatives choose her as a leader.
Queen Elizabeth II invited Liz Truss to create a new cabinet. Truss, 47, entered office on Tuesday after being named Conservative Party leader the day before.
Buckingham Palace says the Queen met with Elizabeth Truss and asked her to establish a new government."Ms Truss accepted Her Majesty`s invitation and kissed hands upon her appointment," it added.
Boris Johnson resigned during his visit with the queen at Balmoral estate in Scotland.
In his closing statement as prime minister, Johnson claimed his policies had given the UK the economic wherewithal to assist citizens in weathering the energy crisis.
"I`m like a booster rocket that`s done its job," Johnson declared before departing from Downing Street.
"I`ll re-enter the atmosphere and land invisibly in the Pacific." He added.
