The conflict between the United States and Iran over Tehran`s nuclear program is a long-standing one. Washington has imposed one-on-one sanctions on Tehran over this issue. This time the two countries are involved in a new dispute over another issue.
The fresh dispute started after the seizure of a Marshall Islands-flagged oil tanker in the Sea of Oman. The tanker was going to Texas in the United States with oil from Kuwait for the US energy company-Chevron Corporation.
The Iranian Navy said, "Several Iranian fishermen were injured when it hit an Iranian fishing boat in the Persian Gulf on Wednesday." Two people are still missing in the incident. Later, when the tanker fled without obeying the radio signal, they detained it on the orders of the court.
The two countries have given contradictory statements regarding the seizure of the tanker in the Gulf of Oman.
The US Navy`s Fifth Fleet in the Middle East said that Iran violated international law by detaining an oil tanker. They called on Tehran to release the tanker immediately.
