Trump launches major airstrikes on Houthi rebels, declares ‘Their time is up’

U.S. President Donald Trump has launched extensive airstrikes on Yemen’s Houthi rebels, resulting in the deaths of 24 people, including four children. Thirteen of those killed were in Yemen’s capital, Sana’a.

The airstrikes, which began on Saturday, are expected to continue for several days or even weeks, according to President Trump.

In his statements, he urged the Houthis to stop their attacks on ships in the Red Sea and issued a strong warning to Iran, the group’s key backer.

He called on Tehran to halt its support of the Houthis immediately, threatening consequences if they don’t comply.

Trump took to social media, where he posted, “To all Houthi terrorists, your time is up, and your attacks must stop. Start today. If not, the sky will fall.”

This offensive marks the largest U.S. military operation in the Middle East since Trump was sworn in for his second term as the 47th President of the United States in January.

His administration is escalating pressure on Iran by imposing tougher sanctions, hoping to bring Tehran to the negotiation table over its nuclear program.

The Houthis, who have been involved in armed conflict in Yemen for over a decade and now control most of the country, responded sharply to the strikes.

Their political bureau condemned the U.S. attacks, calling them “war crimes,” and warned that the strikes could expand into Yemen’s northern provinces.

In their official statement, the Houthis declared, “We are ready to respond to U.S. provocations.”

Residents in Sana’a described the severity of the attack.

Abdullah Yahia, a local resident, said, “The massive U.S. attack shook the entire neighborhood like an earthquake. Our women and children are terrified.”

The Houthis began escalating attacks on commercial ships in the Red Sea in October 2023 as a protest against Israeli actions in Gaza.

Over 100 strikes were launched on these vessels by the Houthis.

The U.S. first responded to these attacks under former President Joe Biden, who ordered military action to curb the Houthi strikes.

However, the operation failed to achieve the intended goals.

Now, with President Trump back in office, the decision to strike the Houthis has been renewed, aiming to bring an end to their reign of terror.

With tensions high in the region and the Houthis threatening retaliation, this latest U.S. offensive raises questions about the future stability of Yemen and the broader Middle East.
