Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal stated that three coordinators have been taken into custody for security reasons, but no one has been arrested.
He confirmed that Dhaka University students Nahid Islam, Asif Mahmud, and Abu Baker Majumdar—key figures in the anti-discrimination student movement and the quota reform platform—are currently in the custody of the Detective Branch (DB).
The Home Minister made these remarks to reporters following a meeting with law enforcement agencies regarding the current situation on Friday (July 26) night.
He explained, "The leaders of the quota movement, including Nahid Islam, are facing security concerns. To ensure their safety, law enforcers have been deployed. Further actions will be determined after an investigation."
Regarding the law and order situation, Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal noted that the curfew would only be lifted once the situation is completely under control.
He urged the people to remain patient for a few more days and mentioned that a decision on extending the curfew relaxation would be made later today.
