BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir today demanded bail in 10 charges involving political violence lodged with police stations in the capital.
The court, however, refused to rule on the bail petitions since they were not filed in accordance with the law.
Six of them were filed with Paltan Model Police Station, while four others were filed with Ramna Police Station on October 28, according to Fakhrul`s lawyer Zaynul Abedin Meshbah.
The charges include killing a police officer, illegally gathering on the street, vandalizing vehicles, rioting, stealing a police weapon, damaging property, attacking police officers, and obstructing them from performing their responsibilities.
Earlier on October 29, Fakhrul was arrested for association in a case filed with Ramna Police Station regarding over attack on the chief justice`s residence during a clash with police on October 28.
On October 29, he was presented before Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Md Rashidul Alam, who denied his bail. On November 22, his bail was denied once more by the Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Judge`s Court.
On December 7, the High Court denied his bail petition for the third time.
Meanwhile, BNP Standing Committee Member Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury today sought bail in nine cases, while Zahir Uddin Swapan, head of the party`s media cell, sought bail in seven cases involving political violence.
On November 3, detectives arrested the two from the Gulshan area.
