The government informed the High Court today that taking Dhaka College student Hasnatul Islam Faiyaz on remand and restraining him with ropes was an error. They assured the court that measures would be taken to prevent such incidents in the future.

Additional Attorney General SM Munir conveyed to the HC bench, comprising Justice Muhammad Khurshid Alam Sarkar and Justice SM Maniruzzaman, that Faiyaz‍‍`s remand has been revoked and he has been transferred to the Child Development Centre.

The Supreme Court lawyer Shahdeen Malik had filed a writ petition challenging the legality of placing the 17-year-old Faiyaz on a seven-day remand in connection with a case at Jatrabari Police Station involving clashes and vandalism.

The High Court rejected the petition today, ruling it moot since Faiyaz‍‍`s remand had already been cancelled.

Shahdeen Malik and Md Monjur Alam represented the petitioner, while Additional Attorney General SM Munir and Acting Attorney General Sk Md Morshed represented the state and opposed the petition.
