The High Court has granted bail to former Cultural Affairs Minister Asaduzzaman Noor in two murder cases filed with Mirpur and Ramna police stations.
A High Court bench comprising Justice KM Jahid Sarwar Kajol and Justice Sheikh Abu Taher delivered the verdict on Sunday, making absolute a previously issued rule related to his bail petition.
Lawyer ZI Khan Panna and Barrister Rehan represented Asaduzzaman Noor in court, while Deputy Attorney General Shaila Sharmin and Assistant Attorney General Md. Alamin opposed the bail on behalf of the state.
Earlier, police had sought to keep Asaduzzaman Noor and Mahbub Ali in custody, showing them arrested in connection with the murder case filed at Mirpur Police Station involving Siam Sardar (17).
According to case documents, the murder case was filed on September 12 by Siam’s father, Sohag Sardar, over the killing of Siam Sardar in Mirpur on July 18, 2024. The complaint reportedly names 114 individuals, including former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, and also includes Asaduzzaman Noor among the accused.
On September 15, 2024, police arrested Asaduzzaman Noor from Bailey Road in Dhaka. The following day, a Dhaka Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) court ordered that he and former Civil Aviation and Tourism State Minister Mahbub Ali be sent to jail in connection with the Mirpur murder case. The order was issued by Magistrate Mosharraf Hossain.
