Prisoner Runa Laila (38) of Kashimpur Women`s Central Jail told the media about the brutal torture. She came out on bail on Tuesday morning. However, after the bail, she was again taken inside the prison gate and kept sitting again, she complained. She was admitted to Gazipur Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmad Medical College Hospital as her condition was serious due to torture in prison.
Earlier on Monday Chief Metropolitan Court Dhaka Judge Arfatul Rakib granted her bail. When the court`s bail documents reached the Kashimpur jail, the jail authorities checked and released her around 3 pm on Tuesday. After being released, Runa described the torture.
Runa Laila told The Report.live, “I was beaten to death with sticks in prison. Jailor Farhana, Deputy Jailor Jannatun Tayyiba, Matron Fatema, Jailor Hafiza, Jailor Sahida, Chief Jailor Shamima, Expelled Jubo Mahila League leader of Narsingdi prisoner Shamima Noor Papia, lifetime convict Roxy, prisoner convicts Anandika, Abantika, drug convict Sonali and prisoner Papiya`s case partner prisoner Tayeba - everyone beat me up. They wanted to kill me at that time.”
Runa Laila said in a tearful voice," I want justice for the wrongs that have been done to me. They did not give me any treatment. They chained me in a dark room. After hearing about my bail, they gave me some medicine to reduce the swelling from the beating. Jailor Farhana instructed the torture. She abused me indescribably. She herself also tortured me."
Papia threatened me after learning that I had been granted bail. She claimed to have contacts across many upper-level sectors. She blackmailed me that if I talk against them like my brother did to the media after going out on bail she will remove all traces of me.
Runa Laila`s brother, Abdul Karim, told TheReport.live, "We learned about the bail this morning. However, we have recently been threatened by someone calling from a foreign number code +987 asking why did we tell the journalists about the torture."
"Due to threats from that mysterious number, I sent my other sister instead of me going to the jail gate. She went and saw that Runa Laila`s name was not on the list. When she came later, she saw a girl in a CNG being sent away by a man! My sister went to see and discovered Runa. Then the accompanying male jailor fled leaving my sister there." added Abdul Karim.
When the CNG driver was asked, he said that Jailor Farhana said to take this woman and drop her somewhere in Gazipur or Kapasia. Hearing this, my sister thought that Runa might be dead. She quickly changed the CNG and brought Runa to the hospital.
A doctor on duty at the hospital checked Runa Laila. She said that the patient`s beating had resulted in major rectal bleeding. Kidneys might be affected.
Abused Runa Laila a is the daughter of Abdul Hai of Karihata village of Kapasia thana. She was brought to Kashimpur Women`s Central Jail 3 on June 16 in a case of Dhaka`s Kotwali police station.
