The Kurigram Express train and a truck crashed on early Monday, resulting in one fatality at the Madhumita Rail Gate in Tongi.
According to the authorities, the victim`s identification could not be immediately determined.
Sub-Inspector (SI) Biplob Saha, duty officer of the Tongi East Police Station said, the accident happened in the Rail Gate area of Tongi Station Road around 1:00 am.
SI Biplob reported that the rickshaw puller passed away instantly, citing railway police. He said that the truck was taken off the tracks.
A witness named Foyez Ahmed said that the concerned person of the rail-gate did not lowered barriers in road that barred vehicle of the roads from rail tracks. He accused the guard of the rail-gate.
Witnesses reported that the dump truck in Tongi`s Boubazar area collided with the train and then struck a rickshaw.
The Tongi railway police outpost`s in-charge, SI Chhoton Sharma, confirmed the death and informed the media that there had been no interference with train operation as a result of the incident.
After an inquiry, the incident`s cause will be determined, he continued.
