Another plane crash victim succumbs to injury

A 13-year-old student who was critically injured in the recent fighter jet crash at Milestone School and College in Dhaka’s Uttara has died while undergoing treatment.

The student, Mahatab Uddin Bhuiyan, was a seventh-grade student at the school.

Dr. Nasir Uddin, director of the Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery, confirmed that Mahatab died in the ICU around 1:50 PM on Thursday.

He suffered burns on 85 percent of his body. With Mahatab‍‍`s death, the death toll at the burn institute has now reached 12.

Mahatab’s uncle, Anjum Sifat, said the family hails from Bonkut village in Debidwar upazila of Cumilla.

His father, Minhaj Bhuiyan, currently resides with the family on Road 10 in Sector 13 of Uttara. Mahatab was the youngest of two siblings; his elder sister, Nabila, is a tenth-grade student at the same school.

According to his uncle Tanvir Bhuiyan, Mahatab’s classroom was on the second floor of the building where the crash occurred.

“The jet crashed just below his classroom, immediately causing an explosion and fire. While running down the stairs to escape, his body caught fire,” he said.

The crash occurred on Monday afternoon when a Bangladesh Air Force fighter jet crashed into the school building. By Wednesday, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) reported that the death toll had reached 31.
