The Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) has revealed the motive behind the murder of Rabiul Islam Rabi, a resident of Shibpur in Narsingdi, during a press conference held today at the PBI headquarters in Dhanmondi, Dhaka.

PBI Superintendent of Narsingdi Enayet Hossain Mannan disclosed that seven individuals have been arrested in connection with the case, with three main suspects identified as Omi, Nehal, and Hasib.

The case was initially filed by Rabi’s mother, Nazma Begum, on October 30, 2023. Enayet Hossain explained that the murder was likely committed over an autorickshaw. The accused, who are reportedly involved in drugs and online gambling, targeted Rabi’s vehicle, believing it would be easy to steal and sell.

“The criminals thought they could easily snatch the autorickshaw from Rabi and sell it off. They murdered Rabi by slitting his throat,” Enayet Hossain said. “We recovered the autorickshaw based on the owner’s description. Although the criminals had changed the paint, our investigation and review of CCTV footage from the road led us to it.”

Nazma Begum, the victim’s mother, expressed her grief, saying, “They killed my son just for an autorickshaw. I was searching for my son until 3 am that night but couldn’t find him. Then, on October 29, around 10 am, I was informed that a dead body was found in the Satpika area of Shibpur.”
