The police have arrested two brothers Wahidur Rahman and Matiur Rahman and a shop owner of the building Abdul Motalib Hossain alias Mintu in connection with the explosion of the building in Siddikbazar, Gulistan of the capital.
Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Media Center confirmed this information to the media on Thursday (March 9).
Detective Chief Additional Commissioner of Police Mohammad Haroon ur Rasheed said that the building was rented out for sanitary business without keeping a parking place underground. There is no ventilation system. The building's septic tank was also never cleaned. In this situation, the responsibility of the explosion cannot be avoided by the building owner or the businessmen there.
He also said that three people have been arrested after the interrogation. A case of negligence will be registered against them and sent to the court showing arrest.
Earlier, the owner, supervisor and some shopkeepers of the building were taken into police custody and questioned. Then today Wahidur Rahman, Matiur Rahman and Abdul Motalib Hossain Mintu were informed about arrest.
The owner of the building is late Rezaur Rahman. Currently his three sons Wahidur Rahman, Moshiur Rahman and Motiur Rahman own this building. Among them, elder brother Wahidur Rahman and younger brother Matiur Rahman managed the building. Middle brother Moshiur Rahman is a resident of London.
Last Tuesday (March 7) around 5:50 in the afternoon, an explosion occurred in a seven-storey building known as Queen's Sanitary Market in Siddiqbazar, near the BRTC bus counter in Gulistan.
22 people have been confirmed dead in this explosion till Thursday. Hundreds of people were injured.
