CEC estimates 15-20% by-polls voter turnout in 6 constituencies

Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Kazi Habibul Awal said the average voter turnout in the by-polls in six constituencies may be 15% to 20%.

He came up with this remark while talking to reporters after monitoring the by-polls at Agargaon’s Nirbachan Bhaban, adding that the number came out of assumption, but not final.

“Though the presence of the voters was low in the polling stations, discipline was maintained.," he said.

He said the Election Commission (EC) collected the updated information from the local administration and the media via its monitoring cell.

Any remarkable irregularity or vote rigging has not happened so far, as per the information EC gets.

Vote casting for the by-elections for the six constituencies began at 8:30am and went until 4:30pm.

The six parliamentary seats were left empty as a result of the resignation of BNP parliamentarian as a part of their anti-government movement.

The constituencies are Thakurgaon-3, Bogura-4 and Bogura-6, Chapainawabganj-2 and Chapainawabganj-3 and Brahmanbaria-2.

Electronic voting machines (EVMs) were used in the voting. However, no CCTV cameras were installed in the polling centres. Forty candidates competed in the 6 constituencies.
