CTTC cites Science Lab explosion alike Moghbazar blast

The explosion at the Science Laboratory area in the capital has been compared to the Moghbazar blast in 2021 by the bomb disposal team of the Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC)  Unit.

This was stated by Rahmat Ullah Chowdhury, additional deputy commissioner (ADC) of DMP and chief of the CTTC bomb disposal squad, after inspecting the explosion scene on Sunday afternoon.

“We first believe that a gas leak caused the explosion at the building of Science Lab area. The incident and the Moghbazar explosion in 2021 are very similar,” he added.

If there is between 5 and 11 cubic feet of accumulated gas, an explosion of this kind may happen. Gas typically causes such huge explosions, Rahmat said.

A huge explosion took place in a three-story building in Moghbazar area of the capital on June 27, 2021. Almost 200 people were hurt, and 12 people died, in the tragedy.

The blast caused the entire neighborhood to tremble, and nearby buildings' windows were completely smashed. Both buildings and automobiles suffered damage.
