Death toll from Uttara plane crash rises to 27, 20 bodies handed over

The death toll from the Air Force training aircraft crash in Uttara, Dhaka, has climbed to 27, with 78 others currently undergoing treatment at various hospitals—many of them in critical condition.

The update was shared during a press briefing on Tuesday morning at the National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery by Professor Dr. Sayedur Rahman, Special Assistant to the Chief Advisor.

Dr. Rahman stated, “Doctors have worked tirelessly throughout the night to provide treatment, but sadly, we have lost many lives.” Of the injured, 42 are receiving treatment at the Burn Institute, 28 at the Combined Military Hospital (CMH), and 3 at Dhaka Medical College Hospital.

He confirmed that among the deceased, 10 died at the Burn Institute, 15 at CMH, 1 at Dhaka Medical College, and 1 at United Hospital.

One body fragment was also recovered at Uttara Adhunik Hospital, though it has yet to be identified as a complete body or part of another. Out of the 27 confirmed fatalities, 25 were children, along with one teacher and the pilot.

So far, 20 of the bodies have been handed over to families, while six remain unidentified. DNA samples have been collected for identification, including the remains at Uttara Adhunik Hospital.

Dr. Rahman added that case summaries of the 78 injured patients have been sent to Singapore General Hospital for evaluation. If any patients require further treatment abroad, necessary steps will be taken.

He also mentioned that hospitals currently have sufficient blood supplies and urged people not to crowd the facilities unnecessarily.
