Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) Spokesperson Md Abu Naser denied traders' claims that the fire at New Super Market was caused by electrical work being done on a nearby footbridge and claimed there was no way to connect the fire to the demolition work.
They didn't use a gas cutter at the fire occurrence site, which was around 400 feet away from the demolition work, according to Naser.
Before the fire occurred, he added, the Dhaka Power Distribution Company Ltd (DPDC) representatives were present during the demolition, which began at approximately 2:00 am and finished at around 5:10 am.
While a fire this morning in New Super Market destroyed numerous stores, some businessmen asserted that the fire was caused by pre-dawn electrical work on a footbridge next to the market.
Around 30 firefighting units, teams from the army, navy, and air force, as well as law enforcement organizations put out the fire by 9:10am after it started at 5:40am, but no announcment was yet to come on dousing the fire.
Traders said that around 4:00 am, work on the foot-over bridge that leads to New Super Market's first level began.
