A student of Dhaka University died early Monday (14 July) after reportedly falling from a building inside Jagannath Hall.
The deceased, Sanjay Baraik (28), was a student of the Department of Anthropology from the 2020–21 academic session.
According to hospital and university sources, Sanjay was critically injured in the fall and was rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, where doctors declared him dead upon arrival.
Masud Alam, Assistant In-Charge of the Dhaka Medical College Hospital police camp, confirmed the incident, saying, “University staff brought him in the early morning. According to them, he had fallen from a building. Doctors confirmed his death shortly after he was brought in.”
Jagannath Hall staff member Manik Kumar Das said a security guard had informed him over the phone that a student was found unconscious beside a road inside the hall premises. “We rushed there and found him lying in a pool of blood. We immediately took him to the hospital,” he added.
CCTV footage later confirmed that Sanjay had fallen from one of the hall buildings. However, it remains unclear whether he slipped or intentionally jumped.
Sanjay Baraik was from Chunaru Ghat Upazila in Habiganj district. An investigation into the circumstances surrounding his death is expected.
