Former police DIG and ex-Meherpur Superintendent of Police AKM Nahidul Islam was arrested on Friday night (12 September) by the Dhaka Metropolitan Police’s Detective Branch (DB).
The arrest was carried out at his residence in the capital based on an arrest warrant issued by the International Crimes Tribunal.
A senior official of the Metropolitan DB confirmed the arrest, stating that Nahidul Islam was wanted under the tribunal’s warrant, and the operation was conducted following intelligence inputs.
According to sources, AKM Nahidul Islam is a key suspect in the murder case of Tarik Mohammad Saiful Islam, the eldest son of former Meherpur district Jamaat-e-Islami leader Shamir Uddin.
