Five people were killed in a head-on collision between a BRTC bus and an ambulance in the Shankarpasha area of Nagarkanda upazila in Faridpur on Sunday morning.
According to police and local sources, the accident occurred when a passenger-carrying BRTC bus collided head-on with an ambulance coming from the opposite direction on the Faridpur–Barishal highway in Nagarkanda. After receiving news of the crash, police and fire service personnel rushed to the scene and began rescue operations.
Authorities have so far confirmed the deaths of five people. The injured were rescued and taken to hospital, though the identities of the deceased and injured have not yet been confirmed.
Officer-in-Charge of Bhanga Highway Police Station, Md. Helal Uddin, told the media that the accident took place when a passenger bus traveling from Bhanga to Faridpur collided with an oncoming ambulance. The ambulance was severely mangled in the crash, and five people died on the spot.
He added that the victims were believed to have been passengers of the ambulance. Preparations are underway to send the bodies to the hospital morgue.
