The government has allocated Taka 178 crore for the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC), the national anti-graft watchdog, in the proposed budget for fiscal 2022-23.
Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal proposed the allocation while placing the budget for fiscal 2022-23 in the House here today.
Taka 159 crore was proposed for the ACC in fiscal 2021-22, while its revised budget was Taka 136 crore.
In his budget speech, Kamal said necessary steps have been taken to prevent and curb graft across the country by identifying the gray areas of corruption.
To increase effectiveness, an intelligence unit has been set up in the ACC, which will be gradually expanded to the district offices, he said.
The finance minister said 'Anti-Corruption Committees' with honest and morally strong people of the society have been formed at every district and upazila levels aiming to create public awareness in the light of the anti-corruption strategy.
In addition, he said, the recruitment process against 280 posts in the national anti-graft body is at the final stage.
Kamal said the overall activities of the Commission will be fully automated to further strengthen the anti-corruption agency.
