A case has been filed against a man for the brutal murder of his sister-in-law and her two young children in Valuka upazila of Mymensingh.
The woman`s elder brother, Zahirul Islam, filed the case on Monday night with Valuka Model Police Station, naming the victim’s brother-in-law, Nazrul Islam, as the prime accused.
Nazrul, a resident of Senar Bazar village in Kendua upazila of Netrokona, is the younger brother of the victim’s husband, Rafiqul Islam.
On Monday afternoon, police recovered the throat-slit bodies of Moyna Akter (25), her daughter Raisa Akter (7), and son Nirab Hossain (2) from their rented house in the Ponashail area of Valuka municipality.
Moyna was the daughter of Aftab Uddin from Paylabar Chowrasta village in Rajoi Union of Valuka upazila. Her husband, Rafiqul Islam, works as a factory worker at Russell Spinning Mills in Valuka and is also from Senar Bazar village in Kendua.
According to Rafiqul, he left for work around 8 PM on Sunday. Later that night, around 10:30 PM, he tried to contact Moyna, but her phone was switched off. He then called Nazrul’s phone and was told by Nazrul that he had spoken to Moyna.
“On Monday morning, when I returned home, I found the main gate locked. With the help of the house owner, I broke the lock and discovered the bloodied bodies inside,” Rafiqul said. “Nazrul was missing, and his phone was turned off. He murdered them all and fled.”
Rafiqul also mentioned that Nazrul had previously been imprisoned for two years in connection with a murder case in Gazipur. About two and a half months ago, Rafiqul paid off a debt of Tk 40,000 to have his brother released on bail. Since then, they had been living together in the same rented home.
Officer-in-Charge Humayun Kabir of Valuka Model Police Station confirmed that the case includes Nazrul as the main accused, along with one or two unidentified individuals. Police are actively trying to locate and arrest the suspects.
