Factory guard killed by truck: Vehicles vandalized, truck torched by RMG workers

At least 40 vehicles were vandalised by RMG workers after a truck run over and killed a security guard of a factory in Gazipur.

The garment workers and locals blocked the Dhaka-Tangail highway in protest this morning till 11:20am. At this time, three workers were injured.

The workers set the truck on fire and blocked the Dhaka-Tangail highway, said Konabari Highway Police Station Officer-n-Charge Atiqul Islam.

The deceased was identified as, Azadul Haque, 35, security personnel.

According to police, some workers along with Azadul were going to the factory. Around 8am, a speeding truck hit Azadul and some workers. Azadul died on the spot.

The driver of the truck managed to escape after the accident. Later fierce workers blocked the road, vandalised vehicles and it caused 5-kilometre long tailbacks on both sides of the highway.
