Low pressure forms in Bay of Bengal; signal no. 3 issued for four seaports

A low-pressure area has developed over the northwestern Bay of Bengal and adjoining regions, which may intensify further.

Due to its influence, squally weather is likely to affect coastal areas, including Cox‍‍`s Bazar, and the maritime ports.

As of Tuesday afternoon (May 27), authorities have advised the maritime ports of Cox’s Bazar, Chattogram, Mongla, and Payra to hoist local cautionary signal No. 3.

Fishing boats and trawlers operating in the Bay of Bengal have been advised to stay close to the coast and proceed with caution.

Since morning, the weather in Cox’s Bazar has been gloomy with intermittent light to moderate rainfall. The sea has turned rough, prompting lifeguards, beach safety personnel, and tourist police to discourage tourists from swimming in the ocean.

Heavy rainfall is expected in the next 72 hours starting Wednesday morning (May 28) across Chattogram and three other divisions.

According to the local weather office, the possibility of landslides cannot be ruled out in hilly areas of Cox’s Bazar, Chattogram, and the three hill districts due to heavy rain.

Given the current rough sea conditions, beach security officials are continuing to advise tourists against swimming, highlighting the potential risks involved.
