Mohiuddin Roni named sole accused among 80 others

A case has been filed against Mohiuddin Roni, the chief coordinator of the nationwide health sector reform movement.

The case was lodged by Bahadur Sikdar, an employee of Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital (SBMC) in Barishal.

The case was registered late Monday night at Barishal Kotwali Model Police Station, naming Roni as the sole identified accused along with 80 unidentified others.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md Mizanur Rahman confirmed the filing and said efforts are underway to arrest the accused.

According to the case statement, for several days, under Roni’s leadership, unidentified individuals had been staging protests in the SBMC hospital area over various demands.

On Sunday afternoon around 2:30 pm, the protesters allegedly intercepted physician Dr. Dilip Roy and assaulted him. Bahadur, the complainant, who was present at the scene, was also beaten.

The statement further alleges that Roni struck Bahadur on the head with an iron pipe before other employees intervened to save him.

Protesters also threw bricks and stones, leaving several hospital staff and attendants of patients injured.

It is worth noting that on August 14, Ward Master Juer Chandra Shil had filed another complaint with the same police station accusing Roni, content creator Nuruzzaman Kafi, and 42 others of assaulting hospital staff and vandalism. However, that complaint was not recorded as a case.
