A sudden Nor’wester storm damaged several houses in Kalapara upazila of Patuakhali on Tuesday afternoon, leaving many families affected.
Officials said at least five houses were completely destroyed, while more than 50 others were partly damaged when strong winds and heavy rain hit Nababganj and Solimpur villages in Nilganj union.
The storm also uprooted many trees across the area, adding to the damage.
According to the Bangladesh Meteorological Department, the district recorded 185 millimetres of rainfall in the 24 hours until 10am on Wednesday.
Sea conditions remained rough following the storm, and fishing boats stayed in safe shelter.
Kalapara Upazila Nirbahi Officer Kawsar Hamid said authorities are preparing a list of affected families and have informed higher officials to arrange assistance.
Local administration officials said steps are being taken to support those who lost homes and suffered damage.
