The Barapukuria Thermal Power Plant in Dinajpur has resumed power generation after fixing a technical fault, restoring partial electricity supply to the national grid.

On Friday, the 125MW Unit 1 returned to operation and is currently supplying 55MW of electricity to the grid, said Chief Engineer Md Abu Bakar Siddique.

The coal-fired facility has a total generation capacity of 525MW, comprising two 125MW units and a third unit capable of producing 275MW.

Unit 2 has been completely shut down since 2020 due to a major breakdown, while Unit 3 has remained offline since October for scheduled overhaul work.

On Apr 22, Unit 1 was forced to halt operations entirely after a boiler pipe ruptured when stones mixed with coal entered the system, stopping production at 10:10pm.

Following the completion of repair work, the unit resumed operations on Friday.

The chief engineer added that the third unit is expected to be operational by the middle of this month.
