Rain likely across Bangladesh in next 24 hours: Met office

The Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) has forecast widespread rainfall and thundershowers, accompanied by lightning and temporary gusty winds, across the country within the next 24 hours starting from 9:00 AM on Saturday.

According to the latest weather bulletin, light to moderate rain or thundershowers are expected at most places in Khulna, Barishal, and Chattogram divisions.

Many areas in Rangpur, Rajshahi, Dhaka, Mymensingh, and Sylhet divisions may also experience similar weather, with moderately heavy to heavy rainfall anticipated in parts of Khulna, Barishal, and Chattogram.

The BMD also stated that day and night temperatures are likely to remain nearly unchanged across the country during this period.

On Friday, the highest temperature recorded was 35.5°C in Dimla, Nilphamari, while the lowest was 24.1°C in Bandarban as of 6:00 AM Saturday. Mongla in Bagerhat district recorded the highest rainfall in the past 24 hours, measuring 93 millimetres.

Meteorologists reported that the axis of the monsoon trough currently stretches from Madhya Pradesh, Bihar, and Gangetic West Bengal to Assam, passing through the southern part of Bangladesh. A connected trough also extends into the North Bay.

The monsoon is said to be fairly active over Bangladesh and strong over the North Bay. Additionally, a low-pressure area is likely to develop over the northwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining areas within the next 24 hours, potentially influencing further rainfall activity.
