Student advisers represent the July uprising, Not NCP: Hasnat Abdullah

Hasnat Abdullah, the chief organizer of the National Citizens‍‍` Party (NCP) in the southern region, has clarified that the two student advisers in the interim government—Asif Mahmud Sajib Bhuiyan and Mahfuz Alam—are representatives of the July uprising, not of the NCP.

He made this statement on Sunday in response to a question from journalists, following the BNP’s call for the advisers‍‍` resignation during a meeting with the Chief Adviser on Saturday.

Speaking to reporters at Biplob Udyan in the Gate No. 2 area of Chattogram city, ahead of an NCP street rally in the south district, Hasnat said, “The advisers are serving as representatives of the mass uprising within the interim government. They do not represent any political party, including the NCP. Efforts to associate them with specific parties are misleading.”

Referring to Saturday night’s meeting with the Chief Adviser, Hasnat added, “We clarified that these two student advisers are included in the government as part of the uprising, and should be viewed with that respect. We strongly object to their continued misrepresentation as NCP members, which undermines their role.”

He further noted, “Differences among political parties on policy matters are natural. But during times of national crisis, we overcome divisions and unite—that is our national character. While policy disagreements continue, a joint effort is ongoing to overcome the current crisis. Whenever the nation has faced conspiracies—whether domestic, foreign, or internal—all parties involved in the uprising and anti-fascist movements have stood together to resist.”
