Bazlur Rashid, a suspended deputy inspector general (DIG) of prisons, was given a five-year prison term by a Dhaka court on Sunday for illegally amassing wealth of Tk 3.14 crore.
Special Judge's Court in Dhaka Jude Md Iqbal Hossain also fined the accused Tk 5 lakh, with a six-month prison sentence.
Additionally, the judge cancelled his bail.
After hearing arguments from all parties, the court set judgment's delivery on Saturday.
On October 20, 20019, the ACC called the suspended DIG and his wife in for questioning, and on the same day, he was arrested on suspicion of accumulating illegal money of Tk 3.14 crore.
On August 26, 2020, ACC Deputy Director Md. Nasir Uddin filed charges against the former DIG. On October 22, the court filed charges against Bazlur Rashid.
