Oscar-winning Weinstein meets sex assault trial

Harvey Weinstein (70), the famous pulp fiction producer, faces trial on Monday in Los Angeles, the city he domineered for decades with his film business.

This man has already been serving 23 years imprisonment for sex offences in New York.

Eleven further accusations, including sexual battery by constraint, coercive rape, and forceful oral copulation, are against him. For these charges, he will likely face another trial in possibly two months.

Weinstein, who has pleaded not guilty, could get 140 years if convicted.

In central Los Angeles, jury selection commenced Monday.

Weinstein‍‍`s conviction in 2020 marked a turning point in the #MeToo movement.

He lost his appeal in June.

Nearly 90 women have accused Weinstein of harassment or assault, including Angelina Jolie, Gwyneth Paltrow, and Salma Haye. British authorities have also accused him of aggravated assault in 1996.

His lawyer told reporters that the Los Angeles charges "come from many years ago" and cannot be supported by forensic evidence or reliable witnesses.

"She Said" is a film about the 2017 newspaper investigation that brought down Harvey Weinstein‍‍`s filmmaking company.

Weinstein shared an Oscar for 1998‍‍`s "Shakespeare in Love." Weinstein‍‍`s films have garnered 81 Oscars and 300 nominations.
