BNP has called for hartal from morning to evening across the country on Sunday for protesting the attack on BNP`s peaceful rally in Nayapaltan.
BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir announced this on Saturday afternoon.
Earlier, the BNP rally started from 2 pm demanding the resignation of the government. However, before that, there have been clashes between BNP activists and police at Kakrail intersection in the capital. At that time BNP activists set fire to two cars and a traffic police box.
Meanwhile, the party alleged that the police chased the BNP rally at Paltan around 2.30 pm. At this time, the police fired several sound grenades and tear shells. Later, BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul announced the hartal at 3 pm from the stage.
Notebly, BNP has announced a gathering and rally on October 28 in Nayapaltan of the capital. Later on the same day Awami League and Jamaat-e-Islami called for a rally at the south gate of Baitul Mukarram and Shapla Chattar respectively. Panic prevails in the public mind regarding these programmes of three parties on the same day.
According to the police, the constitution has given the right to any political party to hold peaceful political agitations, processions, meetings and gatherings. Police also provide security in these cases. But if anyone tries to create a violent situation under the cover of the program, it will be severely discouraged.
