Awami League confirmed to come to power for the fourth consecutive time by getting an absolute majority. According to the results obtained by the Election Commission at 3:30 am on Sunday, Awami League won 223 seats out of 298 seats. Independent candidates, almost all of whom are Awami League leaders, surprisingly got the second highest number of seats. Till that time independent candidates have been declared winners in 62 constituencies.
The Jatiya Party, which was the main opposition party in the last two parliaments, won 11 seats.
Earlier on Sunday from 8 am- 4 pm, polling started simultaneously in 299 out of 300 constituencies. Due to the death of a candidate in Naogaon-2 constituency, the election was stopped in that constituency.
The total number of voters in this election is 11 crore 97 lakh. Among them, 6 crore 7 lakh 71 thousand 579 are male, 5 crore 89 lakh 19 thousand 202 are female and the number of third gender voters is 852. Total polling stations were 42 thousand 103 with 2 lakh 61 thousand 912 polling booths. This time voting took place on ballot paper.
According to the information provided by the EC, voting took place in 299 constituencies out of 300 constituencies. Polling for Naogaon-2 constituency was postponed due to the death of an independent candidate. 28 parties participated in the election. Among them, 1 thousand 534 were party candidates and 436 were independent candidates. Awami League had the 266 candidates in the election. Apart from this, Jatiya Party has fielded the second highest number of 265 candidates and Trinamool BNP has the third highest number of 135 candidates.
