Recent abuse and humiliation of a resident student, the High Court on Wednesday ordered the authorities of the Islamic University to oust Deshratna Sheikh Hasina Hall provost Shamsul Alam and remove five leaders and activists of the Bangladesh Chhatra League.
A bench of Justice JBM Hassan and Justice Razik-Al-Jalil issued the directive on scrutiny of report submitted to the court by the three-member probe committee on Tuesday.
The court directed the students not to enter into the university campus and take part in any academic activities.
The guilty students are the university unit BCL vice-president Sanjida Chowdhury Ontora, her followers Tabassum Islam and Maobiya, both of the finance and banking department, Halima Khatun Urmi of the fine arts department, and Israt Jahan Mim of the law department.
Except Ontora, all are year mate of the fresher student of the finanance and banking department and a resident of the Deshratna Sheikh Hasina Hall.
According to the probe report, Ontora ordered the five followers to torture and humiliate the victim by slapping on her face, one by one as the victim did not follow Ontora’s direction.
Another follower, Lima, seized the mobile phone from the victim while the five students forced the victim to bow her head and touch the foot of Ontora, according to the report.
At one stage of the torture, the perpetrators forced the victim to give an undertaking to the hall provost, Shamsul Alam, the report said.
The probe body found negligence on the part of proctor Shahadat Hossain Azad, provost Shamsul Alam, the university’s assistant registrar Abdur Razzaq, house tutors Moumita Akhter and Israt Jahan, and dining manager Sohel Rana in assaulting the victim.
Although the victim was assaulted in front of the hall provost, he assisted the assaulters instead of resisting them, the report said.
