Sarjis Alam sued in defamation case

A defamation case has been filed against Sarjis Alam, the northern chief organizer of the National Citizens Party (NCP), for allegedly linking the BNP to the murder of journalist Asaduzzaman Tuhin and spreading misinformation.

The case was lodged on Tuesday (12 August) at Basan Police Station in Gazipur by Tanvir Siraj, president of the BNP in Gazipur.

The case hearing took place before Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Almugir Al Mamun at Metropolitan Magistrate Court-2, which accepted the case and ordered the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) to investigate.

Tanvir Siraj stated that journalist Tuhin was brutally murdered for recording videos of a criminal group.

However, Sarjis Alam, without knowing the facts, spread defamatory statements on social media linking the BNP to the killing, damaging the party’s reputation.

Gazipur Metropolitan Police Commissioner has already arrested eight suspects directly involved in the murder and found no political connection to the crime, Siraj added. Following party directives, he filed the case and hopes for justice.

The plaintiff’s lawyer, Advocate Siddiqur Rahman, confirmed that after hearing the case, the magistrate ordered the CID to conduct an investigation.
